Water For Wildlife

Keeping our gardens green
We can keep our gardens and open spaces green, without wasting water.
National Gardening Week ran from 28 April to 4 May, and it was yet another week with virtually no rain. There is very little forecast, so taking a practical approach to watering our green spaces is all important. We can save water used indoors, for the benefit of outdoors. A washing up bowl in the bottom of the shower can capture a good deal of water, to put on the garden. Washing-up water can be given to thirsty shrubs.
When you are considering what to plant, don’t forget the pollinators: https://www.wildlifetrusts.org/savingbees
And let’s not forget the birds and small mammals that will be very keen to drink or bathe in small trays of water put out for that purpose. ( Plastic food trays , washed and ready for the recycling bin, can come in very handy here.) The RSPB has good advice on making your garden wildlife friendly) : https://www.rspb.org.uk/helping-nature/what-you-can-do/activities/get-yourself-a-great-garden
Enjoying green spaces is good for our mental health , and Amersham’s parks and gardens are looking great. Enjoy them in all weathers – they are there for you!
