Amersham Youth Council

Are you aged 14 to 19 and want to make a difference to the community? Do you have an interest in politics, sociology, the environment, or simply want to drive positive change?

Applications are now open to join our new Youth Council – an inclusive, non-party-political group of young people who represent the views of young people living in Amersham. The Youth Council works closely with Amersham Town Council to ensure that young people’s voices are heard in decisions that affect their community.

Anyone aged 14-19 who lives (or attends a community group or school) in Amersham is eligible to join the Youth Council. There are a maximum of 15 seats available. Membership is determined by Amersham Town Council following a recruitment process. Open applications as well as nominations from parents, schools and youth groups are welcome.

While the Youth Council will lead and deliver their own initiatives, they will work closely with Amersham Town Council to ensure that projects meet the Council’s sustainability goals, budget and feasibility. The Youth Council will report to a Youth Council Panel which will be made up of two Councillors (Mark Roberts and Jane Barnes), one Amersham Town Council staff member (Michelle Catanach), and a person external to the Council for neutrality (Sally Alford). The Youth Council Panel will attend Youth Council meetings and act as guides and sounding boards, when needed, and will subsequently report into Full Council on the Youth Council’s behalf. Similarly, issues that arise in Full Council meetings pertaining to youth may be shared with the Youth Council for their input and feedback. Meetings will be chaired by the Youth Council (formal roles to be appointed at the first meeting, date tbc).

Please find below the Youth Council Constitution and an information pack (including application form), which sets out the roles and responsibilities of Youth Councillors.

The deadline for applications is Friday 2nd October 2026.
