Recycled Wildlife Sculptures

October 1, 2025

Earlier this summer, Amersham Town Council partnered with The Beacon School and Heatherton School to create two eye-catching recycled sculptures. Designed to shine a spotlight on the importance of protecting bats and other native wildlife, the project brought together community spirit, environmental awareness, and artistic creativity.

The sculptures were constructed using a mix of recycled materials, including piping, chicken wire, and repurposed cotton sheets. Their shimmering outer shell was crafted entirely from cut-up aluminium drink cans, generously donated by pupils and members of the local community.

Once the framework was in place, the young artists from The The Beacon and Heatherton School brought the sculptures to life. Pupils from The Beacon worked on the bat sculpture, while Heatherton students helped create a vibrant blue tit. Both groups played a hands-on role in designing and building these imaginative pieces.

We’re chuffed to report that the sculptures are now on display at St Michael’s Church on Sycamore Road. They will also be showcased during the church’s Celebration Day this Saturday, from 10am to 2pm.

Please do pop by St Michael’s Church to admire these brilliant creations. This inspiring project is a fantastic example of how creativity and sustainability can come together to raise awareness and spark positive change in our community.

A huge thank you goes to both schools, to St Michael’s Church, and to Colin Pells, who worked alongside the Town Council to bring this project to life.
