Tiny Urban Forest and Winter Garden
In late November, we added the final few plants to complete (for this season) the ‘Tiny Urban Forest and Winter Garden’ on the verge opposite Amersham Station in Chiltern Ave.
This pocket forest comprises 20 Himalayan birch trees (Betula utilis jacquemontii ‘Snow Queen’) and one Tibetan Cherry (Prunus Serrula).
The trees, with their wonderful white bark will provide a contrasting backdrop to the (underplanted) lava-hued stems of Cornus ‘Midwinter Fire’, most notably in winter.
Snowdrops, snowflakes and white narcissus have also been planted to add a splash of colour in spring.
This project aims to enhance biodiversity and provide environmental and health benefits for the local community, and we are grateful to Barnett Waddingham for sponsoring it and Buckinghamshire Council for granting us permission to create the garden on the verge.
