Careful with the Cooker

November 1, 2022

We are all looking at ways to save energy, save money and care for the environment. In the kitchen at Amersham Town Council’s office we are careful only to fill the kettle as far as necessary, rather than to the top. When making tea or coffee, most of us fill the kettle right up. This means, as a country, we’re wasting around £68 million worth of energy a year. By filling the kettle just to the level you need, you could save up to a third of the energy you have been using.

Air fryers and microwaves are much more energy efficient than putting on the oven. The consumer organisation, Which, has handy hints here: https://www.which.co.uk/reviews/cutting-your-energy-bills/article/save-electricity/saving-energy-in-the-kitchen-a9vpj2W40RVJ

We’ve found lots of online useful tips to apply at home too, which we’d like to share. For example, https://energysavingtrust.org.uk/hub/quick-tips-to-save-energy/

Together we can all make a big difference. Good luck!
